~Lucy goes to Pre-School~

IMG_2539_edited

Today Lucy started preschool. She will attend two days a week for 2 and a half hours...while there she will receive her occupational and physical therapies. She was so excited to put on her princess backpack and go to "her school"...I on the other hand was not ready to turn her over to anyone else so soon. It has been 7 years since I took my last "baby" to preschool, so it all seemed brand new...not to mention the fact that I hate having Lucy out of my care. I have been the one meeting all of her needs the last 4 months, and we have not left her with anyone during this time. I know how important the attatchment and bonding period is, but I also know Lucy is 4 years old and wants to play and learn...plus it is so important to begin her therapies. I will admit, I did stay almost the whole time today :), and left her just at the end while they played in the gym. She did great and was so happy to see Bennett and I at the end.

On November 29th Lucy has been with our family 4 months...it seems like she has always been with us. We adore her and cannot imagine life without her. I would say she is basically fluent in English. She understands absolutely everything we say to her, and she is speaking to us in 4 to 6 word sentences...it is so amazing to "watch" her language develop.

(Because this blog is our family scrapbook, I want to record some of the things Lucy does and is saying)

~Thank you, Please, look how cute, pizza in panzone, just a minute, Mommy, more pizza please, I can feed the baby, Mommy look at me, Lucy Joy (last name), Mommy sit down, I go to my school, I help Mama, I help Baba wash...just to name a few

~Lucy's favorite things to do: help Mommy cook, help Baba do laundry, pick up the boys from basketball practice so she can play on the court, take a shower (she loves her bath, but just discovered the shower :), she loves getting new clothes and shoes (that's my girl :)

  1. Lucy is so cute...and always in the most adorable little outfits!!

Glad to hear that she was excited for school....I can empathize with you because I do not look forward to the day I have to take Sarah to school!

It is amazing how quickly they pick up....She has really come a long way in such a short time...you must be so proud of your precious girl!

Hope you have a great week!

  3. Oh Dawn... it is so clear that she is thriving. I too worry about attachment. I never leave Libby at preschool (or anyplace else) if she cries or seems frightened. But I agree with you that they benefit from playing with other young children. I am sure that your boys are like mine... they concede to most of their little sisters wishes, and so our girls needn't negotiate and solve problems at home. Libby has really grown from this process at preschool. I am amazed at Lucy. It is beautiful to watch. She looks really cute with her hair like that. I wish Libby & Lucy could play. I bet they would have lots to talk about.

  5. Too friggin cute!! She is precious and how cool that she is totally fluent after being home for only 4 months-- she is a smart cookie!!

It is hard to do the whole preschool thing but you are right--it is good for her. We are doing the same thing with mia next week. She has to go to daycare for the first time ever in the year and a half we have had her-- it is only 1 day a week that she will be in daycare but still, it is daycare. Anyway, love the pics and she is precious. Let us know how she progresses.

  9. Dawn, Lucy is beautiful! I had the same problem sending Lia! Only they tried to get me to send Lia when she was home for 6 weeks and she was NOT attached to me like Lucy is to you. Lia was also able to get her therapies at home so we waited until the next avalible slot opened up which happened to be September! LOL

Now we are praying a new slot opens up which will actually send her to school five days a week. She is much further behind than Lucy though. They want to increase Lia's therapies to 11 a week! YIKES, I don't think I want that many visits at home. I'd never get anything done.

Lucy will do amazing in school. Positive peer pressure works wonders! :) Lia did amazing things when she started. I can't wait to hear how Lucy does.
