In the Navy....Baby!

I stumbled onto this picture of Poppy Delevingne wearing this gorgeous navy polish

and found this one on Pinterest...

and knew I must share...

 My friend Catie sent me this Navy nail polish a few months back

I have worn it SO many times, on my nails and on my toes

I love it!

It is a color that looks great right now in the middle of summer, and will be fabulous for Fall! 

I think you should give this a try...if your hesitant on your fingernails, put it on your toes and go for a neutral fingernail like the Revlon Colorstay Pale Cashmere I mentioned here :)

Homemade Make-up Brush Cleaner {In My Kitchen}

Whether you have spent a little or alot of money on your make-up brushes

it is SO important to keep them clean!

Make-up and bacteria build up on the bristles and that can be bad for your skin....so a once a month cleaning is a great idea!

I am just not willing to spend $10 - $15 on make-up brush cleaner when making my own is so easy and economical!

Here's how you make it!

1 cup water

1/4 cup rubbing alcohol

1/2 Tablespoon Liquid Dish washing soap
(I used Method...a grease fighting formula helps to break down the make-up)


1/2 Tablespoon Mild Shampoo
(I used baby shampoo)


1 Tablespoon leave in conditioner - this makes your bristles so soft!
(I used Lucy's No More Tangles :)


Mix all ingredients together gently so you don't create too many bubbles
Pour into a small squeeze bottle to store

To clean your brushes:

Pour some of your cleaner into a dish
Dip your brush and gently tap and swish...do not mash it around or you will damage your bristles
Wipe your brush back and forth on a clean OLD towel to remove makeup

(depending on how dirty your brushes are you might have to repeat this step several times, changing out your dirty cleaner)

For larger brushes (powder and bronzer) I find it works better if you put some of your cleaner in a spray bottle and spray the bristles...if you dip these brushes in a bowl of cleaner they just suck it right up!

I ended up making 2 batches of this cleaner to clean about a dozen brushes...my foundation, blush and bronzer brushes used up alot of cleaner


When all the makeup has been removed from your brushes lay them FLAT on a clean towel to dry
(don't store them upright when they are wet, you do not want water to seep down into the shaft of your brush)

If you haven't cleaned your brushes in awhile, I think you will be pleasantly surprised how soft the bristles are!

 

Kiss Me~Brown Sugar Lip Scrub {In My Kitchen}

I recently discovered a perfect little recipe for a really "yummy" lip scrub on Pinterest (of course!!)

Not only does it leave your lips smooth and soft..it tastes really good 

(if you happen to get some in your mouth)

Lucy's lips get a little chapped, so I thought this would be perfect to use on her too, since it's edible!

here is how I made mine...

1 tablespoon coconut oil (as long as it is easy to spoon out of the jar it is soft enough....no need to melt it)

1 tablespoon honey

2 packed teaspoons brown sugar

drizzle of olive oil

Mix together coconut oil and honey until smooth (it doesn't have to be perfectly smooth)

Mix in brown sugar

Drizzle in olive oil just to smooth out the mixture 

I put mine in a  2.5oz baby food jar...it fills it perfectly!

Store in the refrigerator...let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften a little before you want to use it!

Boom Boom Pow Knockoff!

Deborah Lippmann's Boom Boom Pow polish is all the rage right now....

Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer - Boom Boom Pow

 at $20 a bottle (yes, it does contain 24-karat gold dust), I was NOT interested.

So...I did a little research and found that Sally Hansen had made something similar

at only $3 a bottle...NOW I was interested :)

I first applied 2 coats of Essie's Sand Tropez (love that color)

 and then added two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, Set the Stage....

I love this type of glitter polish because there are some bigger flecks mixed in, it does not cover the entire nail, and for me, makes this look more "wearable".

My Everyday {Beauty} Must Haves!

I have a very simple beauty routine everyday.

These are my everyday go-to products that I must have...the rest of the products I use (blush, eyeshadow, mascara), I tend to switch around color or brand...but these 5 always stay the same!

1.  Target brand Witch Hazel
  I used Proactive for years, and switched to Purpose soap, my Clarisonic (LOVE - which should be up there as a must-have!) and witch hazel, and it is working great!

2.  Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller
I love this...I use it right before I start my make-up routine, and I do think my under eye is less puffy and not quite so dark...if anything, it is so cool on your skin it feels good!

3.  Bare Minerals Foundation
I have used BM for at least 10+ years and would use NO OTHER foundation! I have oily skin, so I tend not to use a moisturizer/sunscreen in the mornings, so this foundation is great because it has a SPF 15 built right in!

4.  Bare Minerals Warmth
I use this everday too...even in the winter I like to sweep this over my forehead, cheeks, chin, and a little on my nose for a "sun kissed" look.  I use spray tan on my body so this takes care of my face :)

5.  Bare Escentuals Big & Bright Eyeliner - Intense Black
I love eyeliner right on my top lash line, and liquid liner always looks too harsh for me, so this glides on easily and leaves a nice soft line.

Need a little COLOR??

....on your body? I LOVE to be tan. I love the way I feel when I am tan, but my days of BAKING in the sun are over. I admit when I am on vacation I do lay in the sun because it feels so good. Of course, as I have gotten older I am much more conscience of using sunsreen and wearing a hat to protect my face.

Here in the Northwest, you could tend to look a little "pastey" ...so this is my "go to" spray tan! I have used quite a few, but I love this one. It really is practically mistake proof, the spray is so fine, and the color gradual. The lastest version has a new spray tip that I think is going to make it even better!

I, of course, do not use spray tan on my face...so to give myself a little color there as well, I love to use a bronzer. I am a big fan of Bare Escentuals and their Warmth is my favorite...a little goes a LONG way, so this jar last a really long time!!

So....if you're feeling like you need a little color, give these a try!
